Accessibility

We’re proud to welcome everyone to Brookside Farm and our priority is making everyone feel welcome and safe.

We have adapted the space as much as possible already. If you have a specific need that we can accommodate, we will.

It’s impossible to mention all needs people can have, but we are here to support you. We’ve listed some adjustments below and please let us know if you need anything specific.

Upstairs & downstairs toilets

We have accessible upstairs and downstairs toilets at the farm.

Content in accessible formats.

All of our content comes in Plain English as standard. We can also provide content for you in accessible formats such as large print or braille. Please let us know in advance so we can prepare it for you.

People who use wheelchairs – manual

This is a working farm. There is rugged terrain, which can be accessible to people who use some manual wheelchairs or transit chairs. Please get in touch for a chat and we’ll explore it with you. Priority parking is right outside the Barn.

People who use wheelchairs – electric

This is a working farm. There is rugged terrain on site which means it is not safely accessible at the moment to people who use an electric wheelchair.

People who use mobility aids

This is a working farm and mobility needs will vary. Some of it may well be accessible or paths can be made accessible if we know in advance. Please get in touch for a chat and we’ll explore it with you.

People who are hard of hearing/Deaf and/or Lip readers

The farm experience is about talking for some of the time. If you are deaf/hard of hearing, we can provide everything in written form if needed. If you lip read, we will arrange the space so you have full visibility of anyone who’s talking. Please let us know so we can support you in the best way

People who are blind or have impaired vision

We can adapt for those who have impaired vision or are blind. If needed, we would have 1:1 support for you who stays with you for the whole day. They will describe and explain the visual aspects for you and guide your step on the terrain. They take part with you in the herding exercises.

People with neurodivergence

We know this is a vast area with many or combinations and different needs, and we don’t assume what anyone’s needs are based on a ‘label’.

However, if it’s needed, we’ll have a call with you to talk about your needs.

If you need clear structure, we can explain how the whole day will work, who will be there, what will happen, and when. As it’s a working farm, we do have to be clear there will always be a need to respond to external factors such as weather that we can’t control.

If you can become challenged by overstimulation or you need to have access to a quieter, lower lit or music-free space, we can support you.

If you need the day or the content presented in any specific way, please let us know.

We’d be happy to adjust anything we can. Please get in touch for a chat, as every person and their needs are different and we can support you well when we understand.

A quiet room

We have lots of quiet space at the farm for any need you may have, such as prayer time or breastfeeding/expressing Mothers (yes, we’ve had babies here before as part of the day and they loved it).
